This new moon has no past: what if you didn’t either?

Hi, Reader —

Welcome to Aries season!

Doesn’t it seem like every season there is some end and beginning of a cycle to mark? In summer, the first crescent moon in the first month of the Islamic calendar marks the start of the new year. September brings Jewish new year and the academic cycle begins. In January, our culturally shared Gregorian calendar has us creating resolutions, and the Lunar New Year is celebrated in many eastern cultures. And in spring, with this week’s new moon, it’s the start of the astrological new year!

So really, any time is a good time to begin start something. We are tracing cycles upon cycles!

Leading up to this Saturday, in the early morning, or perhaps very late Friday, the moon wanes until it is nearly nothing: a thin sliver in an expanse of night.

In the dark, we have no past and no future, we can only see so far. And that’s apt for this Aries season new moon. Astrologer Colin Bedell says, “Aries has no past, and what if you didn’t either? It’s the first sign. So Aries Season is reminding us to do everything like it’s the first time. Like we’ve never known failure, disappointment, heartbreak, or loss. It’s a radical reorientation.”

And I love this because it reminds me of what I’ve heard Abbie Galvin say on many occasions: “It doesn’t matter what happened to you. That is not your story. Your story is how you’re taking today into your future.”

Of course, the past is important. It’s our history, it’s our inheritance. In fact in Katonah, we call what is inherited and habitual our “lunar nature,” speaking of the moon. The idea is that we don’t have to be ruled by these tendencies. We can begin again. Always.

And the cycle of the new moon reminds us of this truth.

So come, and plant seeds with me Wednesday, so that we may pluck the deep red strawberries of our ripe desires when the full moon waxes its way here in just two more short weeks. (With thanks to my favourite astrologer Sarah L’Hrar for all the strawberry metaphors! Join us in Costa Rica in 2026!)

Sign up for this free new moon meditation, and receive the replay recording. You can practice again with it on the weekend when the new moon finally arrives.

→ We meet live on Zoom at 19h00 Wednesday evening.

Remember — every new moon is an accessible free practice of meditatation and mantra, with journaling and some sharing. Every full moon, we take time for a longer 90 minute practice, workshop style and priced accordingly. Move and breathe with me as we bring seeds to fruition and release.

Add this new moon cycle to your seasonal meditations to try something new.

I’ll see you tomorrow!
Sara

Hey there, Reader — As you might know, the equinox is coming up later this week, on Thursday. On the equinox, the sun appears directly above the equator, seeming to rise directly east, and set directly west. Today, though — today is the “Equilux” — where day and night are actually equal in length, 12h each. (sounds so fancy, doesn’t it?) Wouldn’t it be nice if life could be so balanced? Rationally, we know that life will always take its ups and downs. What’s important is having strategies for...

Hi, Reader — This is your reminder that The Imprint starts tomorrow, and it’s your last chance to join all 5 days live! This is it — a spring seasonal awakening, a new year on the astrological calendar, and another chance to begin again. I’m just back from a week in Costa Rica, I arrived in Montreal to melted snow, and today some rain — I’m missing the ever present sunshine from my trip, but I know it’s on its way to Montreal again soon. And with the increase in daylight, the warmer...

Hi, Reader — Tonight, in the early hours, the lunar eclipse in Virgo arrives — as you’ve probably heard this week! Lunar eclipses are safe to watch, so I hope this is some motivation to stay up a little later this evening. And while eclipses are simply the moon orbiting through the earth’s shadow, they have held so much mystery throughout the ages, and can be thought to bring powerful, sometimes confusing or chaotic energy, and sometimes clarity, into our lives. One of the most powerful...
