Coming home in Cancer season 🦀

Hi, Reader —

I am home.

After a rich and beautiful stretch of travel through Europe in France and Spain, I am back in Montreal, back to the studio, and back to daily life.

Travel is such a gift. It takes us out of our patterns and reminds us that the world is wider than we usually think. Our routines and habits give us important structure. They can also keep our world small. There are other rhythms, other ways to move through a day, other ways to belong to time. We must make room for those reminders.

I came home with so much beauty in my system. And – I was ready to land.

For me, there is always a moment after travel when my body begins to ask for less novelty. The laundry needs doing. The inbox is waiting. The studio has its own rhythm to return to. The ordinary world comes back into view.

This is where we are in Cancer season.

Cancer brings us back to what holds us: our sense of home, the body, the heart, the places where we feel safe enough to soften.

Cancer is a water sign, so its medicine is feeling.

It asks us to slow down enough to notice what our bodies have been carrying: Notice the emotion underneath the momentum, the need underneath the schedule and the truth underneath the noise.

This is a season of reorientation.

After so much outward movement, Cancer brings us back into relationship with ourselves. It asks us to listen before we decide and feel before we push forward. It wants the body have a voice in what comes next.

And this Cancer season has a strong retrograde current moving through it.

We have three retrogrades moving with us this season. Mercury is the old familiar one, often associated with broken emails, travel delays, crossed wires and conversations that need extra care.

In Cancer, though, Mercury retrograde is also about the way we communicate with ourselves. The old internal broken records. The stories we repeat so often we begin to mistake them for truth. The quiet sentences that shape whether we feel safe, loved, or supported in our own lives.

Add to that, Neptune retrograde, which can lift a fog around what we thought we wanted – and Pluto retrograde, showing us where an old version of ourselves has been running the show.

Together, this period of retrograde sets us up for a season of listening closely: to the body, the heart, and the truth that’s been there all along.

Because Cancer is ruled by the Moon, this is one of the most potent New Moons of the year for intention setting. A reset for the heart. This New Moon reminds us that our feelings are information. Every emotion carries a message from somewhere deeper within us. When we make space to feel, we open the doorway to intuition.

So the question to ask becomes very simple: How do I want to feel?

Let this question move through your whole system before you try to answer it with just your mind.

We will gather for our New Moon practice this Thursday, July 9 at 18h30 EDT. The moon itself will reset next week on the 14th, and we can begin preparing now through meditation, journalling, and breath.

Bring your journal. Bring whatever is ready to come home.

I would love to practice with you.

I love you – keep going.

Hi, Reader — It feels good to be home in July! Back in regular rhythms, practices and teachings. Back in the studio and the everyday life that holds me. As you may know if you’ve been around these parts a while, I’ve been paying closer attention to my summer energy in recent years, and really taking care not to burn myself out. July can carry so much action and passion, and I can feel how much my body has been asking for rest. Especially after travel! So I’ve been returning to The Imprint...

Hi, Reader — I’m back from Lac Brome, and landing here – for just a minute – before leaving for France with Kimiko! That’s why I offered The Imprint a week early this season, rather than trying to battle time zones and come on live with you next week. And as always, the timing feels perfect in its own way. This summer’s Imprint shares some beautiful themes with the upcoming Gemini new moon. Inside The Imprint, we are working with a meditation I affectionately call the Chicken Dance 🐔 – ahaha...

Hi, Reader — I know. It’s early. If you saw 6am and immediately thought, “Sara, no!” – I really do understand! Mind you, I’m just headed back from Lac Brome – an amazing weekend with a group of beautiful women – and we practiced early Saturday and Sunday. It was eased along by the feeling of community, and the wonderful early light we have this time of year. (Not to mention the fairy tale setting in an ancient forest!) I’ve continued to offer a live morning practice for years because there’s...
